Studies and Parties

October was a studious one. Lots of reading, working, and the occasional ice cream to keep us going.

The Sahar Scoop: Sahar made it through her midterms (they were ungraded practice ones, but she still did well) and is already gearing up for finals later this semester. She’s been busy on the career side too—chatting with people at law firms, applying for summer internships, and figuring out what kind of work she might want to do next summer. She also found a new coffee shop to work from called Frenzy, that helped a bit.

We finally celebrated Sahar’s birthday with friends! Her party ended up being a little late so everyone could get through midterms first, but it was well worth it. We made tiramisu which was really tasty. She also went to a Diwali party later in the month. Lots of Indian food, chatting, and laughs; she brought me home one of the dishes to try too! It was very good.

The Benoît Blurb: Meanwhile, I've been keeping busy at work and around town. I wrapped up a project at work adding booking widgets to partner websites, continuing to help with setup and teardown at church on Sundays, and still heading to the dining hall occasionally for omelets in the morning (I'm resisting the donuts). I also coworked with a friend one day for a change of scenery.

Bike rides continue too, one weekend I somehow ended up in the middle of a casual race and a protest on the same ride! That was surprising.

We went wine tasting with friends in Lodi too this month. Had some great Californian wines while also learning about grapes and tasting notes. One of our friends had done a sommelier training and graciously answered our many questions. We liked a particular white wine which was made from grapes created by a UC Davis professor.

We’ve been winding down in the evenings with movies and tv shows. Some spooky in honor of October and some just weird (The Chair Company for example, we’re still not entirely sure what’s going on but we like it). We also attempted a few NYT crosswords and were quickly humbled, but slowly improving. And there were burgers and homemade sweet potato fries involved, a dinner highlight.

The month ended with HALLOWEEN! We dressed up as Carmy and Syd from The Bear and went to San Francisco with some friends from law school to celebrate.

November will be about wrapping up Sahar’s semester (already) and spending Thanksgiving with some of her family. We have a short trip to Yosemite planned as well that we're really excited about.
