Pizza and Promotions

You might notice the newsletter looks a little different... we've been working on some improvements behind the scenes, please let us know if anything isn't working!

July was a big one - new jobs, new pottery, new apartment (finally fully unpacked-ish), and a probably unreasonable amount of pizza.

The Sahar Scoop: Sahar's July was equal parts creative and career. Pottery continued as a steady weekly ritual, and this month she made bowls with work colleagues plus a few solo ones that came out very nice. On the career front, she landed (and accepted) an early return offer at Fisher Phillips, which is one big logistics item officially checked off. We'll be back in San Francisco next summer!

She also managed to fit in learning Mahjong, making onigiri, and seeing another baseball game with colleagues. And of course, wedding planning has been a steady undercurrent through it all, chipping away at the to-do list a little more each week.

The Benoit Blurb: Things got exciting at work! I secured an offer as a Senior Software Engineer at Pepper, a startup in the food distribution scene, and decided to accept. After tearful goodbyes to teammates at CharterUP, I started with Pepper on July 27th. Aside from all that, I kept making the rounds at San Francisco tech events. Some interesting ideas... and some not so interesting ones.

The move out of the Davis apartment finally wrapped up, which meant unpacking at the new place, before repacking in San Francisco to reunpack back at the new place. Safe to say we’re happy to be staying in one spot for a while!

Oh, and then there’s the pizza. There’s a restaurant called Tony’s that claims to have the best margherita in the world. I was a skeptic at first (SF isn't Rome, obviously) but have now twice come away converted: charred-not-burnt crust, tomatoes bursting with flavor, just the right amount of olive oil, and mozzarella at peak melt. Say what you want about San Francisco - they can do pizza. We also tried another pizzeria called Delphina which had very good gluten free crust for Sahar, before heading back to Tony’s at the end of the month because it was just that good.

The Fourth of July delivered a lesson learned the hard way: note to self, don't try to see the fireworks next year (crowd + fog = not worth it). The Bastille Day celebration made up for it though, a proper French affair with excellent crepes, accordion music, and an amusing number of berets wandering around for authenticity.

Culture month continued with a trip to SFMOMA (Museum of Modern Art), and a big-screen outing to see The Odyssey in IMAX. Rounding it all out, we finished touring the botanical gardens together, with the redwood grove earning a shared spot as one of the month's calmer highlights amid all the job and apartment chaos.

August brings a bit of vacation and a chance to reset before we're back in the law school rhythm. Onwards!
