Resuming the Routine

Another month down, and this one had a bit of everything: a trip to the ocean, moving boxes finally gone, a new school year, and a new house with friends. Plenty of running errands and admin tasks too.

We kicked off the month with a trip to Sahar's aunt's place in Southern California. Lots of sun, salty ocean air, and a trip to a semi-famous pizza restaurant. We fit in the whale and dolphin watching boat tour that cancelled on us last time too. No whales, but lots of fun dolphin sightings! A great reset before things got busy again.

Splish splash

We finally completely finished unpacking. Every last box is gone, which feels like its own accomplishment after the move. Had to get settled in before the school year started and free time became a scarce resource.

Sahar filled up the freezer for us with a double batch of her signature scones!

The Sahar Scoop: School's back in session for Sahar, and her new schedule is a full one: interning at the DA's office Mondays and Wednesdays, class Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Fridays reserved for studying. So far, she's enjoying the DA experience, a different feel from working at a law firm this summer, but a good one. The stakes are real too: they want her to run an entire jury trial solo before her internship wraps up.

On the school side, Sahar has joined the international journal (which selects, edits, and publishes law papers), she's competing in Jessup as an oralist (a trial competition that competes internationally), and she's also doing moot court. She'll definitely stay busy this semester!

The Benoit Blurb: I'm back to running long distances in preparation for a marathon in October. Sunday long runs are well past 10 miles now. Work has kept me plenty busy too; I'm trying out splitting my time for an internal team focused on accelerating dev work with AI, which is exciting except the hours in a day haven't magically multiplied to match. The rest is going well though, my colleagues are all very nice and I feel like I'm officially part of the team now.

The nice part of getting up at 6am for a run

We celebrated our 4 year anniversary this month as well! We treated ourselves to a nice steak dinner in Sacramento for the occasion, very tasty.

Two big steaks + crème brûlée = happiness

We're also settling into life with friends in the new house. It's a great space, even if we did manage to lock ourselves out once already. We're exploring the surrounding town as well, already found the best coffee shop! All in all, we're easing back into the law school routine, and looking forward to what September brings.
